More about Recycling description
Recycling, scrapping or dismantling
instructions explain how the product should be handled when it has reached the
end-of-life phase. It should describe if special tools are needed and what parts
the component will be dismantled into. It should specify what parts contain
hazardous materials so that these can be set aside for special treatment.
Recycling descriptions extend the information in scrapping instructions and
should also list materials and suggest suitable recycling processes for the
dismantled parts. The contents of a recycling description may vary a lot
depending on type of product but in general, the following areas should be
discussed:
- General information about the product.
- Dismantling of the product and separation of different types of
materials.
- Description of included materials and their position, e.g. as a drawing.
- Handling of the various materials.
- If hazardous materials (according to e.g. some restricted list) are included in
the product, provide information for safe handling of this material like:
exact position in the product, the quantity and how to take care of this
hazardous material including necessary safety arrangements.
